About

Dr. Matthew Brown was elected as Village Trustee in 2018, completing his term in 2022. During those four years, his accomplishments include: championing our village's Collectively Composting program; serving on the Financial Committee to ensure our budget was being utilized properly to the benefit of all citizens; chairing the Village Tree Board; and chairing the Sustainability Committee and co-authoring the updated Sustainability Plan.

Matt was elected as Leader of the Perinton Democratic Committee in 2022, serving until 2026, when he stepped down to again run for Village Board. In this role he helped usher in an unprecedented era of success for the Democrats of Perinton, coordinating victorious campaigns for Town Supervisor, Board and Justice, Village Mayor and Board, and County Legislature. He has forged working relationships with elected officials at every level, from village to federal, in both Fairport and in its surrounding communities.

Outside of elected life, Matt has been a village resident since 2005, where he and his wife Amber have raised two sons, and spent countless hours volunteering for the Fairport School District in a variety of roles. He graduated from SUNY ESF with a degree in Forestry Biology, from SUNY Upstate with an MD, and completed a residency in family medicine at Lancaster General Hospital, where he was elected Chief Resident by his colleagues and faculty. He has spent his career serving the people of Rochester’s 19th Ward, supplementing his work in family medicine at clinics that specialize in care for the homeless and in chemical dependency.

As Village Trustee, he will advocate for the continued transparency and improved outreach that marked his first four years on the board. He will work to expand housing availability so people of all economic abilities have a home in our Village. He will commit to furthering our composting program and bringing a true Sustainability Board to Fairport, ensuring every decision made by our local government is made with sustainability in mind. He will seek new ways to improve Fairport's walkability and bikeability, through both programs and infrastructure. And he will commit to keeping our Village affordable through judicious budgeting and finding new revenue streams to maintain the quality of life that has become synonymous with Fairport.
